How you will receive your plants:
Rhubarb plants are sent out from our nursery in pots from February onwards.
Can’t plant straight away?
If you can’t plant your rhubarb plant straight away, leave it in its pot in a sheltered spot and water regularly to stop the compost drying out.
Planting tips and hints:
To prepare the soil for planting, use a shovel to clear weeds and dig in plenty of well-rotted farmyard manure.
Space your rhubarb plants 70-90cm apart and plant them so that the tops of the crowns (where the new leaf buds appear) are just visible above the surface of the soil. Water well to settle the soil.
Apply a general purpose fertilisera> in early spring. Water regularly during dry periods.
Don’t harvest any stems in the first year after planting. The next year, pick just a few stems. In following years, harvest as needed from May to June. Avoid harvesting after June to let the plant build up reserves for the following year. Remove dead leaves in autumn.
