Add lupin Blue Javelin to your flower beds for illuminating flowers in blue, yellow and white. This particular variety is a hardy annual so puts up lots of stems in that year due to a naturally vigorous nature. Reaching 1.2m (4ft) we recommend you enjoy the colours and light scent of lupin Blue Javelin in the centre of the border to offset other summer flowers of similar height including heleniums and rudbeckias.
With extra soft leaves this lupin is particularly tactile and a brush of the leaves and stems is just irresistible. With downy leaves, these lupins catch the dew drops early in the morning and the dew glistens in the early morning sun or after a downpour.
If supported by canes or in plant supports the flowers will be upright enough to cut to make lovely bouquets and vase flowers. Combine with grasses for an evocative and effective combination.
Useful tip:
Sow lupin Blue Javelin between March and May in individual 9cm pots in soil covered by a thin layer of vermiculite. When your seeds germinate keep them watered from below and mist the leaves. In May to June position your plant in the centre of a pot or in the centre of flower beds.
After your lupins have flowered, chop down and dig the stems into the soil. Extra nitrogen will be added to the soil by this pea plant which will satisfy the leaves of leafy perennials next year like hostas and heucheras.
