Seed Potato ‘Desiree’ – 1kg
- Versatile in the kitchen
- A dependable maincrop
- Withstands droughts
Fond of home-growers and cooks Desiree is a main-crop red potato variety that melts in the mouth. With contrasting yellow flesh Desiree makes divine mash for and those red skins crisp up nicely when baked.
After digging up crops in autumn Desiree stores effectively in cool, dry conditions so you have big supply of this much-loved potato. That’s a weight off your mind and you need not depend on potatoes in plastic wrap either.
You can expect heavy crops of quality red potatoes even in a year experiencing lack of rain, which is a relief when we growers have to withstand the variable summers here in the UK. Showing resistance to powdery scab Desiree is likely to be blemish-free for flawless as well as tasty potatoes.
We recommend you harvest up to four months after planting in spring, 18 weeks to be more accurate. If late frosts are predicted be sure to cover emerging stems with a horticultural fleece to avoid damage.
Seed Potatoes
All our seed potatoes are graded to a size 35mm x 35mm to 55mm x 55mm. This means that the smallest seed potatoes in the sample will not fall through an 35mm square. This does mean there will be various sizes within the pack. More modern varieties are more equal in size but as we want to offer the more unusual and Heritage varieties, these are more variable but we will always supply the weight stated. Any harvest will depend on individual growing conditions but generally smaller potatoes will produce smaller crops and larger potatoes will produce larger crops. But for example 1kg of seed potatoes will produce the same overall harvest whether the seed potatoes are small or large.
