Seed Potato ‘Desiree’ – 2kg
- Versatile in the kitchen
- A dependable maincrop
- Withstands droughts
Much-loved by home-growers and cooks alike Desiree is a melt-in-the-mouth main-crop red potato with contrasting yellow flesh; it makes mash to die for and those red skins crisp up beautifully when baked.
After harvesting in autumn Desiree stores well in cool, dry conditions so you have an ample supply of this popular potato over the winter. That’s a weight off your mind and potatoes in plastic wrap off your shopping list too.
You can expect heavy crops of quality red potatoes even in a year experiencing drought, which is a relief when we growers have to vie with variable summers here in the UK. Showing resistance to powdery scab Desiree is more likely to be blemish-free for attractive tubers as well as tasty ones.
We recommend you harvest up to four months after planting in spring, 18 weeks to be more accurate. If late frosts are predicted be sure to cover emerging stems with a horticultural fleece to avoid damage.
All our seed potatoes are graded to a size 35mm x 35mm to 55mm x 55mm. This means that the smallest seed potatoes in the sample will not fall through an 35mm square. This does mean there will be various sizes within the pack. More modern varieties are more equal in size but as we want to offer the more unusual and Heritage varieties, these are more variable but we will always supply the weight stated. Any harvest will depend on individual growing conditions but generally smaller potatoes will produce smaller crops and larger potatoes will produce larger crops. But for example 1kg of seed potatoes will produce the same overall harvest whether the seed potatoes are small or large.
