Grafted Aubergine Plants ‘Long Purple’
- Heritage variety
- Grown in Europe since the 1900s
- Excellent flavours from long bodied fruit
Aubergine ‘Long Purple’ is a popular heritage variety, grown in Europe since the 1900s. It boasts excellent flavours and long bodied fruits with very dark purple, shiny skin. These aubergines are best eaten slightly under ripe. Remove small fruits to leave no more than 6 fruit to develop and mature.
Our grafted Aubergine ‘Long Purple’ gives you confidence in two ways: grafting on a strong rootstock helps ensure reliability with vigorous growth, larger yields and better disease resistance; and our choice of contrasting varieties for sweetness and taste. Enjoy a good crop of all three from mid-summer until early autumn.
Aubergines are suited to growing in a sheltered spot with plenty of sun, including on a patio in a pot.
How you will receive your plants:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your plant in a 7cm pot, ready to plant out.
Can’t plant straight away?
Place in a sheltered spot and water regularly to keep the compost moist
Planting tips and hints:
Dig a hole approximately twice as deep and 3 times as wide as the plant’s rootball. If your soil is heavy mix in a soil improver before backfilling. Place the plant in the hole so that it sits at the same level in the ground as it did in the pot. Firm the soil around the plant and water thoroughly. When planting in containers, use a good multi-purpose compost.
Feeding and aftercare: Feed and water regularly.
